Seagrass Rugs and Carpets

Seagrass Rugs and Carpets are natural fiber rugs made from seagrass, a plant fiber obtained from the grasses of tropical marshes. The grasses require that they are flooded by sea water in the crop cycle. This makes the surface of the fibers nonporous, and this makes the seagrass rugs and carpets stain resistant and imparts a smooth texture and sheen. The rigidity of the fibers also makes seagrass rugs and carpets naturally durable.

Seagrass rugs and carpets are one of the most inexpensive and versatile of all natural fiber floor coverings. Since they cannot be dyed, the fibers being impermeable, they are available in their natural colors ranging from sage to olive green, which are aesthetically beautiful and attractive. The warm earthy tones of the seagrass rugs and carpets are an interior decorator's delight. The seagrass fiber is available as a fine standard fiber and the seagrass rugs and carpets come in a number of weaves such as original weave, basket weave and herringbone weave. Apart from being beautiful, they are also very durable and can withstand heavy traffic.

Seagrass rugs and carpets are very versatile and apart from stairs you can use them anywhere. They are not recommended for stairs owing to their smooth texture. Also care should be taken to not place them in extremely moist conditions as they can be susceptible to mildew.

Seagrass rugs and carpets require simple maintenance procedures. Initially when you receive the new rug, you should unroll it, and re-roll it in the opposite direction and leave it for 24 hrs in the room, so that the rug gets acclimatized to the humidity levels in the environment. Once you have positioned your seagrass rugs and carpets, it would be advisable that you use a good doormat in the beginning so as to protect your new seagrass rugs and carpets.

Seagrass rugs and carpets are easy to maintain as dust can be easily brushed off their surface. Regular vacuuming will ensure that the fresh look of your seagrass rugs and carpets are maintained. The vacuum should have a strong suction brush attachment and a beater brush on an upright so that the seagrass rugs and carpets are cleaned well.

In case of dry spills, the seagrass rugs and carpets can be cleaned by scraping the material off with a blunt blade or a teaspoon off the edge of the carpet. If wet spills occur, then they should be blotted or pat dried, immediately with a clean cotton cloth. Care should be taken to avoid rubbing the area as this may force the liquid further into the fiber and causing a stain.

Seagrass rugs and carpets should never be steam cleaned or wet shampooed.

Therefore if you are looking for rugs that are inexpensive, durable and at the same time beautiful, then seagrass rugs and carpets would be your best option. They are also eco -friendly and versatile to use.
